Man Arrested for DUI and Impersonating a Police Officer
On October 14th, 2010 in Boca Raton, a man was arrested for impersonating a police officer. Andrew Novotak, 60, claimed to be a police officer as he pulled over motorists to ask them if they had alcohol or drugs in their vehicles. Novotak was driving a vehicle similar to cars that police officers drive nationwide, a white Ford Crown Victoria with tinted windows. He had flashing emergency lights on the vehicle, a badge around his neck, a German shepherd in the back of his vehicle and a loaded Glock 9mm in a holster on his waist. Although he stated that he was a police officer, victims reported the suspicious encounter to the Boca Raton police.
After the police arrived on the scene and questioned Novotak, they arrested him for DUI (driving under the influence) and impersonating a police officer.
DUI and impersonating a peace officer are serious offenses that may result in imprisonment, fines and other serious criminal penalties. One of the most important things you can do if you are arrested for any type of criminal offense is to contact a lawyer as soon as possible. Remember, you have the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney. Exercising these rights may make all the difference in your ability to avoid a conviction.
