Boca Raton Bond Hearing Lawyer

A bond hearing is a type of legal proceeding that occurs within a set period of time after a person has been arrested for a criminal offense.  The amount of time varies state-to-state.  For example, in the state of Florida, defendants are entitled to have their bond hearings within 24 hours of their arrests.  Usually, after an arrest has been made and processed, a bond hearing date and time is set.

Numerous things happen during bond hearings.  First, judges determine if defendants are eligible for bonds.  Second, judges determine the amount of bonds.   In the majority of cases, judges will allow bonds and set bond amounts.  However, if people committed very serious crimes, they may be denied bonds.  Additionally, if the court feels that people will fail to make future court appearances after paying their bonds and being released from police custody, the court may deny bonds. Once a bond amount has been set, defendants will have to pay amount in full.  They will then be released from police custody, but they must attend future court proceedings related to their cases or they may be placed under arrest and face additional criminal charges.

When people have been held in police custody for a period of time, they want their freedom back.  Therefore, being granted bonds and obtaining reasonable bond amounts is very crucial.  In order to ensure that they are able to obtain fair bonds, people who have been arrested should always have a lawyer on their side who can represent them throughout their bond hearings, like the lawyers at The Orner Law Firm.
